Who is Yager Leadership and Team Development?

Yager Leadership & Team Development

We formed in the early 1970s under the name Consulting Associates. Located at that time in the Detroit Michigan area we began specializing in the Assessment Center Method and in training and learning design. By the mid-seventies our reputation had grown until we were identified by Training Magazine as one of the "Big Three"in management training and selection. With then partner Don Michalak we published the best-selling book Making The Training Process Work (Harper & Rowe) based on the workshop of the same name we were conducting and continued to conduct for over 20 years through the University of Michigan Division of Management Education. With then partners Ron Kregoski and Beverly Scott we produced one of the first books on the subject of quality and service improvement through teams (Dartnell) and the first video based training process on quality management teams and Quality and Service Improvement Methods (T.E.A.M.). Ed Yager moved to Park City, Utah and subsequently formed Yager Leadership & Team Development.

Our Unique Methods/Processes

Our broad base of experience, research, study, and skill cuts across all areas of organizational effectiveness. This provides us the insight, knowledge, vision, and perspective that is needed in evaluating and selecting managers, and in strategy, evaluation, leadership development, and planning processes.

We begin with a broad based assessment of your needs, goals and capacity.

We determine your strengths, weaknesses, capabilities, plans, and competitive position.

We then help your management team make decisions, resolve differences, plan the future, and implement changes, training or other interventions as appropriate.

We have the capability, experience, and tools to make your organization a benchmark.Yager Leadership & Team Development is a consulting and training firm dedicated to help you achieve your goals and objectives. We have been in business for over 30 years. When it comes to the design and implementation of solutions and achieving measurable results, few have the depth and breadth of our experience.

  • We are not in the business of selling packaged programs or "fast food" seminars. Our work is customized to fit your needs, context, objectives, and current position.
  • We have nurtured our reputation as among the most results oriented, ethical, and best informed firms in the U.S. Continuous research, study, and improvement is a primary objective.

A Few Words About Our Use Of The Adult Learning Model

Our background, our foundation, is in the advancement and application of adult learning principles and practices in all learning activities. We were among the first to write in detail about adult learning. We have worked and studied with legends like Likert, Herzberg, Lippitt, Knowles, Kirkpatrick, Tichy, Bennis, Rummler, Senge, and others.
  • We emphasize participation in the learning process.
  • We have an understanding that adults learn through the filter of past experiences and with already formed habits, assumptions, and biases about themselves, about others, and about their environment.
  • We recognize the need to create a learning environment which emphasizes both self discovery, development, and increased confidence.
  • Our sessions all include carefully managed and reinforced "walk through the change" processes. It can best be explained in three steps.
  1. Experience and Awareness - an exercise, instrument, case study, survey, role play, assessment, or other form of feedback must be provided in order for the individual to get a more objective and more clear understanding of his or her current view of the world, and of his or her skill level.
  2. Choices and Content - A presentation on the key points to be made regarding practices, theories, methods, expectations, concepts or other learning objectives follows the awareness. Learning about alternatives and options.
  3. Change - A plan for change based on adequate experience in mastering the new methods or practices that are important, and a method of follow-up and reinforcement.
